Etherpad Lite logo The Etherpad Foundation has been busy reorganising the Etherpad Lite project and getting Etherpad 1.2 (and 1.2.1) released. The new release of the Node.js and JavaScript powered realtime collaborative editor now has an admin dashboard at /admin, an easily settable instance name, plugin-specific settings in the settings.json file, and an online editor for settings.json within the admin dashboard, where an administrator can restart the server.

Translations are now simpler to implement too; Etherpad Lite supports English, German and French, and other translations can be developed on TranslateWiki.

The project has moved GitHub repository as well, so existing users will need to first run:

git remote set-url origin git@github.com:ether/etherpad-lite.git
git pull

on their installations to update to Etherpad 1.2.1; the change moves the project from a contributor's personal repository to a Foundation-run repository. The repository isn't the only visible change though, as a new etherpad.org site offers a live demo, options to donate and links to the project's blog, issue tracker, wiki and GitHub repository. The Foundation also says it's in the final stages of completing its membership of the Software Freedom Conservancy, working with them to ensure their agreements work in European courts as well as the US.
