Enlightenment 18 development begins
The developers of Enlightenment have apparently begun work on Enlightenment 18, only six weeks after finishing their twelve-year development cycle for Enlightenment 17. Under the slogan "Enlightenment 18: Breakage starts here", the initial work has been detailed in a new blog for the E18 release manager. The new, mysterious, release manager replaces the old, mysterious, E17 release manager, with a promise to "get right into it in a manner far more serious than the weak blog of my predecessor".
The E18 release manager gives details of the work that has been ongoing in the last month, such as replacing the old e_dbus code with a newer edbus implementation, adding an improved Bluez module, including a mpris2-based music player controller, and adding support for dbus menus. Work on a new configuration system and merging the compositing module into the core of the system has also begun. The first post also included a number of release links: an E17.1 bug fix release, an EDBUSv2 snapshot and the first snapshot of E18. Details of all the changes in the first E18 snapshot are included in the NEWS file.
