Engine Yard gets new funding
A number of investors have decided to invest in Engine Yard, the US based application hosting company which specialises in Ruby on Rails applications. The startup firm will receive $19 million from investors including DAG Ventures, Bay Partners and Presidio Ventures. They will be joining current investors such as Benchmark Capital, New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Amazon. The firm received $15 million from Amazon in July 2008 and $3.5 million from NEA last January.
Engine Yard offers cloud solutions for Rails applications and announced earlier this year that it would handle the administration of older Ruby 1.8.6 development. Company employees are also working on JRuby, the Java implementation of the Ruby language, and Rubinius, a Ruby 1.8 implementation designed to provide an implementation of Ruby in Ruby based on an efficient, slender language kernel.
