The Eclipse Foundation has begun looking for a new name for the coordinated release of Eclipse projects that will follow Eclipse Juno. The discussion is taking place in bugzilla entry 365965 and is open to all developers registered on the Eclipse bug-tracking web site. A final decision should be reached by 31 January, 2012.

The entry gives some guidelines for the new name: it would be best if names begin with a letter following J – preferably K – and be in keeping with previous themes of the moon, heavenly bodies, gods, or scientists – "but no strict rule". The initial list already includes 13 suggestions:

  • Kepler
  • Koala
  • Kirk
  • Kuiper
  • Krakatoa
  • Kosmos
  • Kelvin
  • Kinetic
  • Krypton
  • Knuth
  • Kapteyn
  • Kahn
  • Kyzczsina

The Eclipse community has until 1 January to contribute other ideas and thoughts on the names as the list grows. Once the list of suggestions has been compiled, inappropriate suggestions will be removed by the Planning Council. Then, starting on or around 6 January, one or more community polls will be held to choose the final name for the release following Eclipse Juno.
