EclipseSource has announced version 5 of Yoxos, a management tool for Eclipse environments. Yoxos manages Eclipse configurations and tool sets, so that developers can, for example, use their workspaces with different plug-in configurations. Yoxos is not open source, but the basic version of Yoxos is free, and the company also offers their premium "Collaborators" package free to open source projects. Details on pricing are available from EclipseSource.

Yoxos manages the individual components of development environments in a joint pool, from which individual workspaces can be created as needed. When switching between those workspaces, Yoxos orchestrates the loading and unloading of all required plugins, even downloading them from the pool when required.

Version 5 of Yoxos contains revisions that allow it to be used under Mac OS X and Ubuntu; performance has also been improved, though no details are provided. The system is available to download for 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
