EasyPeasy 1.6 final released

Just one week after the release candidate arrived, the EasyPeasy developers have announced the release of version 1.6 of their Linux distribution aimed at netbooks. EasyPeasy, originally called "Ubuntu-eee" until Canonical intervened, has historically focussed on the ASUS Eee PC, however, a number of other netbook devices are also supported.

EasyPeasy 1.6 is based on the latest 10.04 LTS release of Ubuntu, code named "Lucid Lynx", and features a "brand new interface". The developers note that version 1.6 includes the addition of a new boot system with new artwork using Plymouth and that the HAL (hardware abstraction layer) package, is no longer used during boot or resume, speeding up these processes by up to 25%. Other changes include a number of updated packages, the open source Nouveau driver for NVIDIA graphics hardware and built-in integration with social networks, such as with Twitter, identi.ca and Facebook, via the MeMenu.

EasyPeasy 1.6 is available to download from SourceForge as an ISO image file. The distribution can be installed using a DVD and an external optical drive, or installed from a USB flash drive using UNetbootin. EasyPeasy is released under version 2 of the GNU General Public License (GPLv2) and other open source licenses.
