The Easy Peasy developers have announced the release of version 1.1 of their Ubuntu-based Linux distribution for netbooks. The free open source netbook operating system comes with support for device drivers, such as wireless modules, sound chips and webcams, for popular netbooks.

The release includes several bug fixes and upgrades to applications, such as Songbird and Flash. A new icon theme, splash screen, log-in screen and wallpaper are included as part of the new visual profile for Easy Peasy.

Easy Peasy can be installed using a DVD and an external optical drive, or installed from a USB flash drive using UNetbootin. Version 1.1 of Easy Peasy is available to download (Direct Download) as a 913MB image file. A user guide is also available.

Work has begun on version 2.0 of Easy Peasy. The 2.0 release will be built on final version of Ubuntu 9.04, scheduled to be released on the 23rd of this month. According to Jon Ramvi, the man behind the Easy Peasy project, version 2.0 will include more enhancements to the visual style, additional netbook features, a new file system and a new notification system. Easy Peasy 2.0 is expected to be released shortly after the final release of Ubuntu 9.04, however, an exact date has yet to be announced.
