digiKam 2.6.0
Zoom A new maintenance tool has been added to simplify maintenance tasks

The digiKam development team has published an update, 2.6.0, to its open source digital photo management application for KDE, more than six months after version 2.5.0 arrived.

One of the most notable changes in the release is the addition of a new maintenance tool. According to the developers, the tool is aimed at simplifying the maintenance operations that users can perform on their collections; these include rebuilding thumbnails and finger-prints, as well as finding duplicate items.

The developers also note that they have added a process manager for controlling digiKam's parallelised processes and that they have fixed "a lot of bugs" in XMP sidecar file support. The companion Kipi-plugins have been updated with a new tool for exporting collections to the ImageShack online hosting service.

A full list of fixes and changes can be found in the announcement blog post and in the NEWS file. Version 2.6.0 of the digiKam Software Collection can be downloaded from the project's site as source tarballs for self-compilation and binary packages for various Linux distributions. Hosted on SourceForge, digiKam is licensed under the GPLv2.
