KOffice developer Thomas Zander reports in his blog that Nokia has packaged the KDE office suite for Maemo 5 (Freemantle). The resulting document viewer uses KOffice's KWord and KPresenter to load and display documents and presentations with a custom user interface tailored for the Maemo 5 style.

The work, which has been done as an open source contribution to the project, has already been committed to the Subversion repository of KOffice to allow the rest of the KOffice community to benefit from Nokia's work. The Viewer for Maemo 5, which runs on the recently announced Nokia N900, will be officially presented at the Maemo Summit being held in Amsterdam between October 9th and 11th. Zander goes into further detail on the packaging of the office viewer in a posting on the KDE mailing list.
