Document Freedom Day logo This year's Document Freedom Day (DFD) will take place on 28 March. The day is intended to help highlight the importance of free and open document formats and standards.

To participate, users are asked to create and put up posters, hand out leaflets in libraries, and hold community events, with the aim of promoting the adoption of open formats and standards for documents and raising overall awareness of the issues. Banners are provided for users to place on their sites, and some of the artwork from previous years can be used to make t-shirts, wallpapers and stickers.

The annual campaign for document liberation, which takes place on the last Wednesday of March each year, is organised and funded by the Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE), a non-profit organisation dedicated to the furthering of open source and free software. Information on ways to get involved, along with a list of local events, is provided on the Document Freedom Day web site.
