Sun Microsystems has released an early access preview of the Java Micro Edition Software Development Kit (Java ME SDK) 3.0 for Mac OS X. This means that developers who work on a Mac will no longer be excluded from developing mobile Java applications. The "Early Access" version requires Java 1.6 to be configured as the default run-time environment in the Java preferences.

The SDK is based on the recently released beta of Sun's free NetBeans 6.8 development environment and supports all the Java ME APIs as well as the current CLDC (Connected Limited Device Configuration) Hot Spot Virtual Machine. In addition, the SDK allows developers to run the JavaFX 1.2.1 Mobile Emulator on a Mac.
