Dell and Red Hat have entered into an OEM partnership deal that will allow customers to buy Dell Precision workstations and laptops, as well as PowerEdge servers, pre-loaded with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Red Hat's JBoss middleware application server.

The systems are provided through Dell's OEM Partner Program, which is aimed at IT service providers who would purchase these integrated solutions and install them for their customers. The companies have yet to announce details of the specific products, the customisation options available, and when the systems will be available for purchasing.

Dell and Red Hat have worked together in the past – enterprise customers have been able buy Dell computers with RHEL pre-installed for several years. As both companies are founding members of the OpenStack Foundation and Dell already has an OpenStack product, it is possible that the OEM deal could be further extended to include cloud computing offerings in the future.
