Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" Installer RC1 released
The Debian Installer team has announced the arrival of the first release candidate (RC1) of the installer for Debian 6.0, codenamed "Squeeze". According to the developers, the RC1 kernel has been updated to the latest version of 2.6.32 available in Squeeze and addresses some usability issues of non-free firmware.
Compared to the previous second beta, the latest development preview of the Debian Installer 6.0 also features the addition of support for the Lao and Sinhala languages, fixes for Finnish keyboard support and it includes the new SpaceFun artwork for Squeeze – a preview of the artwork can be found on the Space Fun wiki page and in a YouTube video. Other changes include the addition of support for YDL PowerStation (PowerPC), QNAP TS-119P+ and TS-219P+ (ARM), as well as improvements to support for PowerPC machines.

Installer CDs and other media for the Debian Installer 6.0 RC1 are provided on the Debian-Installer web site. The latest stable release of Debian is version 5.0.7, a maintenance update to Debian GNU/Linux 5.0, code named "Lenny", from 27 November.
