Linbit Information Technologies GmbH has announced that it will incorporate the DRBD+ (Distributed Replicated Block Device) high availability solution, which has so far only been available under a commercial licence, into the DRBD open source product. The result is to be called DRBD 8.3 and become available under the GPL licence from December.

This merge of features will allow DRBD to mirror the data on replicated nodes to a third node via the network and will increase the volume limit from 4 to 16 TBytes per device.
