The Cyberduck developers have released version 3.6 of their open source File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client. Cyberduck is a Mac OS X application that supports protocols such as FTP secured over SSL/TLS (FTP/TLS), SSH Secure File Transfer (SFTP) and Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV).

Cyberduck 3.6 includes a number of changes and adds support for Amazon S3 file versioning and Google Storage; both of the new cloud storage features also include Access Control List (ACL) editing. Amazon S3 related feature additions include bucket versioning and multi-factor authentication delete, download and revert to previous file version function, batch metadata editing. It also supports S3 compatible services such as Eucalyptus Walrus.

Other changes include support for third-party terminal applications, an unsecure connection warning when passwords are transmitted in plaintext and a number of bug fixes over the previous 3.5.1 release. According to a post on Twitter by Cyberduck developer David Kocher, a bug fix update – version 3.6.1 – is expected to arrive later today to address a permission reset issue over FTP.

The project developers have also confirmed that Cyberduck for Windows is coming. The Windows version of the application will reportedly support Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 in English and more than 30 other languages. Users interested in joining an upcoming private beta can do so by emailing the developers.

Mored details about the release can be found in the change log. Cyberduck 3.6 is available to download (direct download) for Mac OS X 10.5 or later and is licensed under the GPL version 2.
