Cyberduck Logo After confirming that a Windows version was already in the works earlier this year, the Cyberduck developers have announced the arrival of the first public beta for version 4.0 of their open source File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client. Previously only available for Mac OS X, Cyberduck supports protocols such as FTP secured over SSL / TLS (FTP / TLS), SSH Secure File Transfer (SFTP) and Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV).

According to the developers, the features in version 4.0 of Cyberduck will be the same for both Mac OS X and Windows, such as drag-and-drop file transfers, as well as integration with a variety of applications including Google Docs and Amazon S3. Available for Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7, the public beta for Cyberduck 4.0 for Windows also features support for connecting to Windows Azure Blob Storage.

As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback (email link) and report any bugs that they encounter.

More details about the development preview can be found in the official release announcement and in the change log. Cyberduck 4.0 Beta 1 Build 8087 is available to download (direct download) from the project's site. Users running the previous private beta can upgrade to the latest release by using the built-in "Check for Update" feature. The latest stable release of Cyberduck for Mac OS X is version 3.8.1 from the 3rd of December.

Cyberduck source code is hosted on trac.cyberduck.ch/ and is licensed under version 2 of the GNU General Public License (GPLv2).
