Crossover logo With the release of Crossover 12, CodeWeavers aims to further improve the support of Windows applications under Linux and Mac OS X. Those who use CrossOver 12 on a Mac can take advantage of a new experimental graphics driver that is designed to improve performance. The driver also makes the X Window System redundant when using Windows software with CrossOver under Mac OS X. It is still classified as experimental and is, therefore, currently only used in some applications. However, the driver is planned to become the default in future Mac versions of CrossOver.

CrossOver 12 now supports more current software such as Quicken 2013 and World of Tanks. Linux users can now also play Guild Wars 2. A number of bug fixes solve problems with Microsoft Office, and the developers say that they have also improved the World of Warcraft installation routine and user experience. The range of applications that are now supported by CrossOver, and how well they work, can be seen in the compatibility database.

CrossOver's code base has been updated to Wine 1.5.15 and includes several thousand changes. As an alternative to the .Net API, CrossOver offers the Wine Mono package. The release announcement and change log provide information on all new features.

The CodeWeavers web site is offering a free 14-day trial version to download. CrossOver users with a support agreement can download the current version free of charge. Depending on the chosen support period, CrossOver 12 costs between £25 (1 month of support) and £38 (12 months). Recently, CodeWeavers made its software available to download free of charge during a 24-hour marketing campaign; in that case, the free download also gave access to 12 months' support and updates.
