CouchDB Logo The Couchio developers have announced the release of version 1.0 of CouchDB, one of the representatives of the NoSQL database movement. Discussing the release, creator of CouchDB and CEO of Couchio Damien Katz said, “In addition to scale, performance and reliability, the latest release of CouchDB is all about making life even easier for developers," adding that, "Our new authentication system lets web developers quickly write Couch applications without first having to create a user model. Forget about defining SQL tables for users and writing potentially insecure code or plug-ins for users and passwords. Relax, we made all of that easy and automatic in CouchDB 1.0.”

According to the company, this major release of their open source database is now easier to use, more scalable and significantly faster. Apache CouchDB 1.0 features 300% faster writes than the previous release for large documents and support for Windows. Other changes include an improved authentication system that allows users to create CouchApps without having to create a user model and better replicator options so that developers can use replication to make custom systems.

More details about CouchDB can be found on the company's site. CouchDB 1.0 is available to download from Apache CouchDB is licensed under version 2.0 of the Apache Licence. Organisations currently using CouchDB include Mozilla, the BBC and Meebo.
