Concurrent, the US specialist in real-time systems, has updated its RedHawk Linux distribution to version 5.2. Redhawk, derived from Red Hat Enterprise Linux, but with a custom kernel, is intended for use in environments with timing-critical applications. The new release is claimed to improve the performance of programs on NUMA systems, while supporting the Precision Time Protocol (PTP).

RedHawk Linux is used in a number of military defence programs, including the US Marines' Aegis Combat System. Concurrent and Novell are collaborating on the development of Linux Enterprise Real Time (SLERT).
