The Concrete5 developers have announced the release of version 5.3 of their PHP-based web site Content Management System (CMS). The new version of the free open source CMS includes several improvements to the file manager and to user permissions customisation. A new feature included in version 5.3 is the close integration with the online image editing software Picnik, making it possible to edit images directly in the browser.

Concrete5 is an alternative to blogging software WordPress and other free tools, such as Drupal or Joomla. Known as Concrete since its inception in 2003, following the release of version 5.0 in the middle of 2008, Concrete was re-named as Concrete5.

More details about the release can be found in the release notes. Version 5.3 of Concrete5 is available to download from SourceForge and is released under the MIT license.
