Jenkins logo Platform-as-a-Service provider CloudBees has released Jenkins Enterprise, a version of its continuous integration (CI) software designed for use in businesses. The service goes beyond the open source Jenkins community's Long Term Support (LTS) release and provides enhancements for large installations, resource management, and access rights management; to this end, CloudBees has developed a variety of enterprise plugins. Customers who purchase Jenkins Enterprise also gain access to the company's other proprietary products.

The Jenkins project, whose roots lie in the Hudson server operated by Oracle and located on Eclipse.org, releases a new LTS release of the CI server every three months. Businesses, however, tend to stick with one version longer and not use every supported release. Jenkins Enterprise may be of interest to these businesses as CloudBees extends its support by nine months. The company, which employs Hudson/Jenkins inventor Kohsuke Kawaguchi, also offers a free evaluation version.
