Clonezilla Live gains EFI support

The Clonezilla development team has published version 1.2.8-42 of its Clonezilla Live Linux distribution. Clonezilla Live 1.2.8-42 features the addition of the GRUB2 bootloader for EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface), allowing it to boot from a USB device with a GPT partition on modern Intel-based Macs.

According to developer Steven Shiau, who also works on GParted partition editor, this latest stable release has been updated to the unstable branch of Debian (known as "Sid") from 13 May and includes the 2.6.38-5 Linux kernel. Other changes include replacing the "gPXE" open source network bootloader in the boot menu with "iPXE", updating the Syslinux bootloader collection to version 4.04, and various bug fixes. The developers also note that initrd has been compressed using xz which has made the Clonezilla ISO/Zip file 3 MB smaller.

Clonezilla is an open source clone system and is designed for hard disk partitioning and duplicating. It has a range of features which the developers say are similar to those of Symantec Ghost Corporate Edition and Partimage.
