Chrome beta 10 integrates JavaScript optimisation technology

Google's "Crankshaft" technology for the runtime optimisation of JavaScript, first released in the developer preview of Chrome last December, has now been made available to a wider audience in beta version 10 of the browser. The developers' "aggressive optimisations" have reportedly improved the browser's JavaScript performance by up to 50% compared with the previous version. The developers also say that they have accelerated the browser's JavaScript property accesses, arithmetic operations, tight loops, and function calls.

Chrome 10's new browser page based preferences The beta also offers new browser settings that are now opened in a tab instead of a dialogue, a pre-set password synchronisation feature, and GPU-accelerated video rendering. Also included is an experimental web navigation API.

At the same time, the developers have released the first version 11 developer preview of Chrome. It offers enhancements such as a new implementation of the XSS Auditor, which is now enabled when the browser is started. This technology is designed to assist web authors in finding code segments that are vulnerable to cross-site scripting attacks.
