Python icon After four years at the head of the Python Software Foundation, Steve Holden has given up his position as "Chairman of the board" early, for health reasons. Holden is handing over to the new chairman, and currently vice chairman, Van Lindberg, "somewhat earlier than originally anticipated". Van Lindberg was responsible for the management of PyCon 2010 and 2011. Holden, who has spent a total of eight years on the board of the open source organisation, was informal leader of the first PyCons in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Holden previously talked of his role and plans to step down at Pycon 2012.

He will still be a board member for the remainder of his elected term. The Python Software Foundation was founded in 2001 to take care of the open source project that is the Python programming language. The non-profit holds the rights to the Python licence and to the language; the President of the Foundation is the inventor of Python, Guido van Rossum.
