CeBIT 2010: ARCHOS announces two Android-based Home Tablets
At this year's CeBIT IT trade fair in Hannover, ARCHOS, the French multimedia tablet manufacturer, has announced two new touch-screen tablets that run Google's open source Android operating system. According to ARCHOS, the ARCHOS 7 and ARCHOS 8 Home Tablets are aimed at home users, bridging the gap between smartphones and desktop PCs and providing always-on access to the internet and multimedia content.
Both of the tablets feature a 600 MHz ARM 9 processor, built-in Wi-FI and a USB connection, and include access to ARCHOS's Appslib store. Similar to it's other tablet devices, the ARCHOS 7 Home Tablet is also a portable media player and can play back up to 7 hours of video or 44 hours of music on a single charge. The ARCHOS 7 will be available in 2 GB and 8 GB models, at £129.99 and £149.99 respectively, in April of 2010.
The ARCHOS 8 Home Tablet is designed primarily for web browsing and comes with a digital photo frame application. The ARCHOS 8 Home Tablet includes 4 GB of memory and will be available in May for £129.99. The company also says that it will be launching a new range of tablets based on the 1 GHz ARM Cortex processors with 3 to 10 inch displays in the summer of 2010.
