CeBIT Logo The H will be attending this year's CeBIT trade show on the world's largest fairground in Hannover, Germany taking place from the 2nd to the 6th of March, 2010. CeBIT, held each spring since 1986, is the world's largest trade fair showcasing the latest in information technology (IT). CeBIT is an acronym for "Centrum der Büro- und Informationstechnik", which means "Centre of Office and Information technology". This year's theme is "Connected Worlds" and more than 4,150 companies from 68 countries are expected to exhibit their latest products, concepts and technologies. Due to recent global economic conditions, attendance, however, is down from 4,300 last year and more than 5,800 in 2008.

Building upon its success in 2009, free and open source software (FOSS) will again be highlighted in Hall 2 with an even larger presence showcasing the latest software, from embedded Linux systems to operating systems and applications. CeBIT Open Source includes the Open Source Forum, which will feature several lectures and keynote speeches on topics from Open Source in Data Centers and Security, to Mobility and Multimedia. The complete programme is available online. This year's Open Source Project Lounge is sponsored by the Mozilla Foundation, the non-profit organisation behind the Firefox web browser.

As always, Security World at CeBIT will feature a number of security-related technologies, such as software applications, authentication tools and mobile and network security. These include anti-virus, anti-spam and anti-malware products from manufacturers like Symantec and McAfee. The new Security Plaza is located at the center of CeBIT Security World (Hall 11, Stand D12) and serve as the forum for presentations from several leading security experts exploring security loopholes and how they can be closed.

The opening ceremony will take place on the 1st of March from 6 pm to 8 pm local time and will be streamed live on cebit.de. This year Spain is CeBIT's official partner country.
