Cappuccino logo The 280 North developers have announced the release of Cappuccino 0.9.5, their open source application framework designed to assist developers in creating web applications that look and feel like Mac OS X desktop applications. Cappuccino 0.9.5 includes more than 90 new features and improvements, as well as numerous bug fixes.

Version 0.9.5 introduces "modern" scrollbars which automatically fade away when they are not in use, giving the user more space to view the content in the area they have scrolled to. Cappuccino also detects browsers that don't support or cannot use overlaying scrollbars and reverts back to the old style scrollbar. The developers have introduced a new popover control widget which provides a small window that is attached to, while standing out from, the user interface and remains visible until the user dismisses it.

Other new features include a level indicator widget that is graduated from "empty" to "full", which is useful for displaying usage levels. The level indicator is editable and may be placed inline in tables. The new bootstrap installer is, say the developers, simpler to use and installs all needed packages. Also newly added is a Predicate Editor and Tooltip support.

The latest version of Cappuccino also sees the documentation extended and its appearance refreshed making it easier to navigate and find the information needed. There are many more improvements in this release, details of which can be found in the change log. Cappuccino 0.9.5 is available to download from the project's site. Cappuccino is licensed under the LGPLv2.1.
