Cappuccino Logo The Cappuccino developers have announced the availability of version 0.8 of their web framework. The Cappuccino web framework is implemented using Objective-J, an Objective-C like language built on JavaScript; this lets developers create Cocoa-like applications for the web. In addition to the usual bug fixes, the latest release includes nearly 100,000 lines of changes over version 0.7.1 and several new features.

Cappuccino 0.8 features the addition of new table view implementations (CPTableView and CPOutlineView) with support for a large number of rows, column sorting, and drag and drop. Other changes include automatic image spriting, updates to the nib2cib command line tool used for converting Cocoa’s nibs and xibs to Cappuccino’s cibs, and new tests and components. The developers also note that Cappuccino no longer has any external dependencies when building from the repository and, despite the number of changes, there are "almost no API differences", meaning that developers should be able to take advantage of the benefits of the new version without having to spend too much time updating their code.

More details about the release, including a short video, can be found in the release announcement. Cappuccino 0.8 is available to download from the project's site and documentation is also provided. Cappuccino is backed by 280 North and licensed under version 2.1 of the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPLv2.1).
