Canonical and the Ubuntu developers have announced the availability of Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS, the second maintenance update to the Long Term Support (LTS) version of Ubuntu Linux, released in late April 2010. The updated release incorporates all the fixes that have been released for 10.04 since it was made available. These updates are concerned with certain security problems and other high-impact bugs. The release also fixes several bugs in the installation process such as performance regressions with ext4 file systems, partitioning for hibernation and errors which appear after installation when the CD or DVD has been ejected.

The developers state that their intention has been to focus on "maintaining stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS". The updates to the installation CDs and DVDs are available for both server and desktop versions and 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. There are also updates for the alternative desktop environment Ubuntu distributions, the KDE-based Kubuntu and the Xfce-based Xubuntu, to bring them up to the same level as 10.04.2.

The LTS versions of Ubuntu are supported for three years for the desktop releases and five years for server releases. The standard releases are supported for 18 months of updates for both the desktop and server versions. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS will continue to receive maintenance updates and security fixes until April 2013 on desktops and April 2015 on servers.

More details about the release can be found in the release notes and in the change log on the Ubuntu Wiki. Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS is now available to download for both servers and desktops for 32- and 64-bit systems.
