Ubuntu Logo Canonical and the Ubuntu developers have announced the availability of Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS, the first maintenance update to the Long Term Support (LTS) version of Ubuntu Linux, released in late April. This maintenance release of "Lucid Lynx" includes various updates, covering several bug fixes, security issues and errors in the installation system. These changes include an upgrade for MySQL, updates for the desktop installer to prevent crashes on start-up, fixes for performance regressions with Ext4 under certain workloads and several package updates.

The updates for the Debian-based distribution focus on improving stability and compatibility. Ubuntu 10.04.1 includes all of the security updates affecting 10.04 LTS that were released up to and including early August, 2010. Users who already run Ubuntu 10.04 should have received and installed all these updates online; the point release provides a current version of the LTS release for new installations.

The LTS versions of Ubuntu are supported for three years for the desktop releases and five years for server releases. The standard releases are supported for 18 months of updates for both the desktop and server versions. Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS will continue to receive maintenance updates and security fixes until April 2013 on desktops and April 2015 on servers.

More details about the release can be found in the release notes and in the change log on the Ubuntu Wiki. Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS is available to download for 32 and 64-bit systems. The next release of Ubuntu following Lucid will be version 10.10, code named "Maverick Meerkat", and is scheduled to be released on October 10th, 2010 (10/10/10).
