Canonical get on the OpenStack
Canonical has announced that it is officially joining the OpenStack community. The OpenStack platform was launched by Rackspace and NASA last summer after both had found there was not a fully open cloud computing stack available which wasn't steered by a vendor. The OpenStack project has gained support from Citrix, Dell, AMD, Intel and many others, thanks to its open standards approach to cloud platform development. Canonical has now officially joined this community, although it has been participating with it informally.
Canonical's plan will be to include the new 2011.1 Bexar release of OpenStack in the repositories for the forthcoming Ubuntu 11.04 as a technology preview. It will then work on developing a more integrated version of OpenStack after feedback on the 11.04 preview. Canonical already supports competing cloud technology Eucalyptus in UEC (Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud) and earlier in the week officially launched a collaboration with Dell to deliver UEC on Dell servers.
