The Calligra project, part of the KDE community, has announced that the first build of the Calligra Suite for Windows has been released for testing. Its developers say that the test build of the Calligra Suite for Windows is considered to be "highly experimental", noting that it is primarily aimed at testers who "are willing to report bugs".

Like its Linux counterpart, the Windows version of the open source office and creativity suite includes a word processor called Words, a spreadsheet application named Tables and a presentation program called Stage, as well as the Flow diagramming and flowcharting application and Braindump, a mind mapping program. The Karbon vector graphics drawing app and Krita painting and image editing app are also included. However, some features, such as high bit depth colour modes in Krita, are currently missing as the required libraries have yet to be ported to Windows.

As the Calligra project does not release binary builds, these builds of the Calligra Suite for Windows are provided and hosted by German consulting and development firm KO GmbH. Development work on the Windows version of the Calligra Suite is sponsored by NLnet Foundation, a Dutch organisation that funds a number of other projects related to the Open Document Format.

The first build of the Calligra Suite for Windows is available to download from KO GmbH. As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they find. The Windows port of Calligra suite is licensed under the GPLv2.
