The WordPress project has announced the first WordPress Community Summit, which is to take place in October. The organisers are currently looking for nominations of individuals and businesses that are "using WordPress in unexpected but intriguing ways". The summit will be by invitation only and the focus of the event will be on working on the project's code and on discussions among the leading community members around the future of the project.

Nominations close on 22 May with invitations being send out in June. The summit itself will take place during a long weekend in October on Tybee Island, Georgia. Specific dates are yet to be confirmed. The organisers are pointing out that not only code contributions qualify but that there are many other ways that people can get involved in helping the WordPress project, such as volunteering for forum moderation, reviewing themes, managing the plugins database, translating, writing documentation and more.

WordPress is the most popular open source content management system and the next version of the software, WordPress 3.4, is expected to be available soon. The current stable release of Wordpress is version 3.3.2.
