The Document Foundation logo The Document Foundation has reissued a "Call for Locations" for the 2012 and 2013 LibreOffice Conferences. The last event was held in Paris in October 2011, and the call for locations for 2012 went out shortly after that. The deadline for submitting a proposal to host the 2012 conference is 22 January. According to the Foundation the conference "traditionally" takes place between September and November, though the preferred month is October. The 2012 proposal will be voted on by the LibreOffice community in late January or early February. The deadline for the 2013 proposals is the end of August 2012.

The "Call for Locations" reminds prospective hosts that organising a conference is a time-consuming task, which can be a full-time job in the immediate run up to the event. It also notes that it will consider proposals from professional event managers as invalid as "the LibreOffice Conference is a community event, by the community, for the community". Hosts will need to offer an easily accessible location with capacity for 300-500 visitors and sufficient hotels or other facilities for those visitors. The financial and legal responsibility for the event will also fall entirely upon the proposing organisers and the Foundation suggests that a local entity "may it be a corporation or preferably a non-profit" takes care of those duties.
