Version 5.5.9 of the free MySQL database has been released. Apart from making minor changes to the mysqladmin and mysqldump tools, improving their operation with authentication plug-ins by allowing which authentication plug-in to use, most of the changes were bug fixes. One change flagged as incompatible is the stopping of auto_increment wrapping for increments greater than one.

The majority of the other fixes affect the InnoDB database back end, which has been used by default since version 5.5 of MySQL and corrections were made to the partitioning and replication functions. The release notes describe all the changes, and the source code and binaries for many platforms are available via the usual online channels. MySQL is available under the GPL version 2 or under a commercial licence.
