The Software Freedom Conservancy has appointed Bradley M. Kuhn as full time Executive Director. The SFC is a non-profit organisation founded in 2006. It promotes and defends Free, Libre, and Open Source Software (FLOSS) projects by offering a non-profit infrastructure for the communities around software such as Amarok, Sugar Labs, Samba and BusyBox. It has also taken legal action on behalf of projects to enforce the GPL.

Previously Kuhn was the FLOSS Community Liaison and Technology Director of Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC). He has worked for the SFC part-time for the last four years, and has worked for twenty years in the free software field, with ten years of non-profit management and organisational experience. He spent four years as the Executive Director of the Free Software Foundation. Kuhn said of his appointment and the Conservancy "Our goal is to handle all the issues of non-profit management and oversight for Free Software developers, so they can focus on the important tasks of writing and documenting software. I am grateful for the opportunity to focus my work in the software freedom community on this urgent and necessary endeavour."

In a posting Kuhn says one of his goals is to run the Conservancy as transparently as possible and to that end he plans to keep a regular blog about the organisation's activities.
