Bodhi Linux reaches 1.0.0 stable

The Bodhi Linux developers have announced a stable version 1.0 of their Linux distribution with an Enlightenment based desktop. Bodhi Linux is a minimalistic distribution which targets a minimum specification of a 300 MHz i386 system with 128 MB of RAM and 1.5 GB of hard disk space. Built on an Ubuntu 10.04 LTS core, it aims to follow the Ubuntu LTS release cycle by making minor releases every three months with updated software packages. Bodhi, the word, is the Buddhist Sanskrit term for Enlightenment.

The developers are attempting to ship a Linux with as little as possible pre-installed; the only installed applications are the Midori web browser, LXTerminal console, PCManFM file manager, Leafpad text editor and Synaptic package manager. These applications are complemented by the Enlightenment desktop, with a range of themes, and the Bodhi Software Center, for selecting and installing further applications. During installation the user can select which of the pre-installed applications are available, allowing it to be even more minimal. On first boot, the user can select a desktop layout/style and a theme.

Bodhi Linux installed, running Midori The final 1.0.0 release features a Plymouth based boot splash that was reworked for the release with text only support added, and saw the removal of nautilus elementary (replaced by PCManFM).
