Beta version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2 released

Red Hat logo Red Hat customers with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) service contracts are now being supplied with a beta version of RHEL 6.2 through the Red Hat Network. Red Hat said that improvements have been made and new functionality has been added in the areas of performance, scalability, identity management, high availability, advanced storage and networking; RHEL 6.2's support for new hardware has also been improved.

The developers say that the beta can be configured to boot from hard drive partitions larger than 2.2 TB on some systems without UEFI. The high availability add-on now covers operation as a VMware guest and offers full support of the GFS2 cluster filesystem. In InfiniBand environments, the distribution can now operate as an iSCSI initiator and storage server.

After the release of a beta version, it typically takes Red Hat six to eight weeks to release the corresponding final version of RHEL. Therefore, RHEL 6.2 will probably be released in late November or early December – about six months after the current version 6.1.
