Kolab Systems, the developers of the open source groupware suite Kolab, have opened a public beta test of MyKolab.com, which provides hosted instances of the software. Until the end of March, interested users can test the service free of charge. Kolab Systems has not given details of what the service will cost once the beta test is concluded, but beta test participants will be able to benefit from discounted rates.

The latest version of the open source groupware server, Kolab 3, was released in mid-January and includes a redesigned web interface based on the Roundcube email client; Roundcube development is sponsored by Kolab Systems. Kolab 3 also introduced improved synchronisation with Android, iOS and other ActiveSync clients. The source code for the groupware server is available under a number of licences.

The hosted Kolab service brings the features of Kolab 3 to users without the need to install the software themselves. As the launch constitutes a beta test, Kolab Systems says the service is currently aimed at "early adopters and tech enthusiasts". Interested parties can find more information about the service on the Kolab Systems web site.
