With help from pyneo.org supporters, the sharism.cc developers have announced the availability of a Debian compatible kernel and two different Debian ubi rootfs files for the Ben NanoNote pocket computer. According to a post on the sharism.cc blog, the first ubi rootfs file is a minimal Debian, while the second also contains "everything you need to compile on the Ben."

As it includes more than 20,000 packages, the developers consider Debian to be "a huge playground for testing ideas and creating new projects." The developers say they hope that Debian will serve as a platform to allow users to do rapid prototyping on the NanoNote computer. While still in its early stages, the aim is to establish Debian as a second standard distribution with Linux for the NanoNote systems. Once stabilised and deemed production ready, it will be ported to OpenWrt – meaning that, in future, developers will not "need to spend time porting all libs first, but instead can focus on bringing great software to the Ben."

Details on how to flash the NanoNote with Debian are available on the pyneo.org website. The Ben NanoNote pocket computer from QI Hardware is licensed as a free hardware platform under the Creative Commons. Additional details about the NanoNote, including its specifications, can be found in the Pocket computer with open hardware platform for 99 euros report from The H.
