After six months of development, the Banshee team has released the latest version of its open source, cross-platform media player. Banshee 2.4 adds DVD playback capabilities, UPnP support and other improvements.

Banshee 2.4 includes full support for DVD menus, which can be navigated using the mouse or with keyboard controls. The new UPnP features allow users to play media from sources on their network that support UPnP streaming. The developers have also improved the UI to make it easier to filter content in Banshee's media library.

Other new features include support for the Archos Internet Tablet, MusicBrainz support on FreeBSD, tweaks to Banshee's alternative Muinshee UI and 91 bug fixes since the last stable version. More information on the release, with a full list of changes, can be found in the official release notes. Banshee is available to download for Windows, Mac OS X and several Linux distributions. The program is licensed under the MIT/X11 License.
