Bacula Systems Logo Bacula Systems has released version 4.0 of its Bacula Enterprise Edition. The backup solution's most important new feature is the web-based "BWeb Enterprise Management Center" which allows admins to manage multiple Bacula installations.

Other new features include backup improvements, MySQL and PostgreSQL database compatibility and new Windows plug-ins for the Registry, System State, Active Directory, Exchange and Share Point. The vendor also says it has worked to improve the product's scalability and data verification mechanisms.

Bacula Systems provides commercial support and training for the Bacula open source network backup solution, founded and developed by Kern Sibbald. With version 4.0 of the Enterprise Edition, Bacula have introduced a new "Lite" subscription particularly for small and medium-sized businesses. The "Lite" subscription includes support services as well as access to all Bacula patches via the web portal.

Bacula runs on Linux, Unix, Windows and Mac OSX and can be used to create and manage backups and recover and verify data across a network of computers. The software supports various types of media, such as tape drives and hard drives, and its source code, hosted on SourceForge, is licensed under version 2 of the GNU General Public Licence (GPLv2).
