BT5 R1 The BackTrack development team has announced the release of the first update to version 5 of its penetration testing distribution of Linux. BackTrack 5 R1 is based on the 2.6.39.4 Linux kernel and addresses more than 120 bugs found in the previous version. Thirty new tools have been added and 70 existing tools have also received updates. In the coming days, the developers plan to release a series of tutorials on the project's wiki.

Further information about the update can be found in a post on the BackTrack blog. BackTrack 5 R1 ISO and VMware image files, with either GNOME or KDE desktop, for 32- and 64-bit systems, are available to download as torrent files from the project's web site. The BackTrack project is sponsored and developed by Offensive Security .
