After roughly two years of development, the Arquillian team has released version 1.0 of the open source platform for testing middleware applications. Arquillian gives Java developers the ability to write unit tests that work at run-time within Red Hat's JBoss application server.

Arquillian generates a test package for Java applications which the application server executes, showing the test results. Furthermore, Arquillian gives users the ability to manage the life cycle of the application server and automate the creation of browser instances to be used for testing. The developers also point out that, since its inception, the framework has "matured dramatically" and now comes with many container adapters, extensions and test runners.

Arquillian 1.0 can be downloaded from the JBoss Community site for the project . The source code for the project is released under the Apache 2.0 License and is available from GitHub. The name Arquillian comes from the name of a tiny race of aliens from the Men in Black movies.
