ApacheCon Logo ApacheCon Europe, the official user conference of the Apache Software Foundation, has announced three brand new features, a Hackathon codefest, the Apache BarCamp and the Geek for Geeks track, for this year’s event which is to be held at Amsterdam’s Mövenpick Hotel, from 23–27 March 2009.

Hackathon codefests have been exclusive to Apache committers at previous events. This year they will be thrown wide open, so all attendees can join in and acquire an intimate knowledge of how to commit code for Apache projects and of how the Apache Community operates.

Having debuted at ApacheCon US 2008, held last November in New Orleans, the Netherlands conference will bring Europe its first Apache BarCamp. BarCamps are an ad hoc method of learning, “unconference” style, providing off-the-cuff presentations, discussions and demos, with interaction from participants.

The Geek for Geeks track promises highly technical developer-oriented sessions on Hadoop, Apache HTTP Server, Sling and more.
