Apache widens access to the developer community

The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) has launched a new project which aims to simplify the process for developers who wish to become part of the Apache development community. The Community Development project aims to focus not on specific projects, but rather discuss and explain the structures and processes which are applied to most Apache projects.

The project is still at a very early stage, but already has a "Newbie FAQ" and has details on a mentoring programme and how that can be applied in formal education. A mailing list has also been established for feedback, queries or support for the initiative.
