Netcraft's web researchers counted 155,583,825 Apache sites in January, 354,000 more than in December. However, growth has slowed down as 5.4 million sites had been added during the previous month. Another trend noted was that the Apache web server appears to have recovered after months of decline.

In January, Apache's market share was 50.61 per cent against 49.57 per cent in December. Microsoft achieved 35.81 per cent, a gain of 0.05 per cent. Google was third with 5.33 per cent, a loss of 0.18 per cent. The open source Apache httpd server has experienced an steady decline in market share in the last 18 months. Netcraft cites an increasing number of blog web sites using software by Apache's competitors Microsoft and Google as the reason for the fall.
