Apache Hive 0.6.0 released
The Apache Hive development team has announced the release of version 0.6.0 of its data warehouse infrastructure built on top of the Apache Hadoop open source framework for distributed computing. The latest version of the top-level Apache project includes a number of new features, such as support for views, and fixes for more than 150 bugs. Additionally, Hive 0.6.0 can now handle a Skew Join operation which joins two tables together, while consuming less memory.
The developers note that the new release includes new configuration properties and that users upgrading from earlier versions of Hive should "replace all of the old copies of the hive-default.xml configuration file with the new version located in the conf/ directory."
Further details about the release can be found in the official release announcment and in the change log. Hive 0.6.0 is available to download from the Hive Releases page – Hadoop 0.17 or later and Java 1.6 or later are required. A Getting Started Guide is provided.
