Apache Geronimo fully certified for Java EE 6
Version 3.0 of Apache's Geronimo application server, currently available as a first beta, has been fully certified for Java Enterprise Edition 6 (Java EE 6). Geronimo is now a small step ahead of its open source competitor JBoss, which has so far "only" been certified for the stripped-down "Web Profile" Java EE specification.
Geronimo 3.0 is available with either Tomcat 7 and Axis2, or combined with Jetty 8 and CXF. However, the Java EE Full Profile certification is only valid for the first bundle. Also compliant with the specification, the Web Profile release allows Geronimo to be distributed with Tomcat 7.
More details about the beta, including a list of known issues and limitations, can be found in the release notes. Apache Geronimo 3.0 Beta 1 is available to download from the project's site and is licensed under the Apache License 2.0. As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. The current stable release is version 2.2.1 from December 2010.
