Apache Commons logo The Apache Commons team have announced the availability of Commons Math 2.0, a lightweight and self-contained library of mathematical and statistical components, which tries to fill in the computational holes in the Java programming language and goes beyond the Apache Commons Lang project. The 2.0 version is a major release which adds algorithms for matrix decomposition and curve fitting, sparse matrices and vectors, a Mersenne twister pseudo random number generator and rank transformations.

The Java library is not source or binary compatible with previous versions of Commons Math; the developers have set Java 5 as the minimal Java version required to compile and use the library. Commons Math is licensed under the Apache License 2.0 and is available to download now.
